- Neuroticism - tendency to easily experience and exhibit poor emotional adjustment, unpleasant emotions and negative effects such as anxiety, insecurity, hostility, anger, depression, vulnerability.
- Extraversion - describes energy, positive emotions, assertiveness, sociability, talkativeness, being sociable, assertive, active and the tendency to seek stimulation in the company of others.
- Agreeableness - tendency to be compassionate, cooperative towards others, trusting, compliant, caring, and gentle rather than suspicious and antagonistic.
- Conscientiousness - tendency to show self-discipline, act dutifully, aim for achievement, planning, organization, and dependability.
- Openness to experience - describes a persons degree of disposition to intellectual curiosity, creativity, preference for novelty and variety, being imaginative, nonconforming, unconventional, and autonomous.
- Understanding people is important for leaders to make them understand company operations and processes. Personality traits drive the behaviour of subordinates and this information is very useful for leaders to guide them on how to interact with the fellow workers. For instance this information guides on the type of assignments to be given to subordinates, how to motivate them, the nature of expected team dynamics, how to deal with conflicts and other behaviour reinforcements to be used.
