What are the features of bureaucratic leadership style?
- Bureaucratic theory – Founded by Max Weber 1864-1920.
- Bureaucratic leadership is where the manager manages by close adherence to procedure or policy.
- If it isn`t written down in the procedures and policies, the manager refers to the next level above him or her.
- This manager is really more of a police officer than a leader as he or she only enforces the rules.
- An organization is viewed as a type of social relationship that has regulations enforced.
- Has a few people at the top, making decisions and a chain of middle managers and lower-level people below them carrying out specific functions.
- Orders come from top down in a manner mimicking the military creating consistency and precision.
- Rules rather than people form the basis of an organization.
- It is dependent on rules, means – end calculation and matter of facts.
